Content and framework conditions of the project work
The initiative was founded in: 1988
The initiative was founded because of the following reasons:

To promote dialogue between young and old, to draw the attention of scientists and researchers, and to sensitise the general public.
The idea came from Dr. Mag. Rosemarie Kurz and is supported by different older women and members of the university.
The series of lectures on Inter-generational Learning has been taking place since 1988 with varying themes, and older women are now the focus of public and academic discussion for the third time.

The initiative was founded for a limited period of time:

The lecture series "Equality for Older Women" is restricted to the summer term 2000.

Target group(s): Women interested in becoming politically involved and university students.
Targets: - Gaining public attention
- Forcing political objectives
- Collaboration on the lecture series by women politicians and representatives of women's and senior citizens' organisations.
Details of the work done by the initiative:

Lecture series Inter-generational Learning "Equality for Older Women": Unemployment, Overworked due to care-work, isolation, educational inadequacies and poor financial security in old age colour the image of older women in our society.
A transnational EU-project is attempting to throw light on this subject.
The invited lecturers present their views and in the subsequent discussion the participants can articulate their own opinions.
The lectures are to be documented in a brochure and made available to interested parties.

Areas of work of the initiative:
Political participation
Education
Science and research
Success that the initiative has achieved:

The lecture series brings the problems of older women into the light.
As the lecture series appears about 50,000 times in the print media, older women can draw some self-esteem from this amount of public attention.

Problems that the initiative has been faced during its work:

- Acquiring the public funds needed to cover running costs
- Recruiting suitable people willing to do this work on an honorary yet regular basis.

Participation of the target group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work:

Discussions with older and younger women, in which they express their personal views and standpoints; exerting influence through women politicians and scholars.

Co-operation:

Since the founding in 1996 of the platform Frauen50plus, we have had exchanges of views with women's organisations in Graz, promoted in particular by the Graz Women's Committee - Frauenbeirat.
This Committee integrates all women's groups in the city of Graz.
Due to our presence on the Internet - www.seniorweb.at - we assume that there will be more collaboration with other initiatives.
Exchange of views and information platform
An annual joint event on controversial themes such as violence towards women.

Information:

We are available for people interested in receiving more information on our initiative by phone, post or e-mail.
