| Content and framework conditions of the project work |
| The initiative was founded
in: 1999 |
| The initiative was founded because of
the following reasons: |
On the occasion of the "International Year of the
Female Senior Citizen 1999" a seminar was to be organised specifically on women's
issues and aimed at establishing the current status of older and old women and their
needs, now and in the future. |
|
1-day seminar on 23.6. 1999 (with an evening programme) |
| Target group(s): |
No specific target groups. The actual target groups
were people who work with older and old people. |
| Targets: |
To establish the concrete needs of older women and work
out new strategies and possibilities for positioning this group of women. |
| Details of the work done by
the initiative: The seminar took the form of
a workshop in which the participants were given great scope for getting involved in group
work and discussions.
Focla points: - United Nations principles regarding older peole and their significance for
Austrian women, especially those in the third and fourth phases in life
-The image of the woman over 50 in the media
-Holistic approach in gynaecology
-Female sexuality in old age. |

A new positioning of older women in
society |
|
| Success that the initiative
has achieved: Through the discussions on the
various themes, plans could be worked out for further collaboration among the participants
and new objectives set by and for older women. These objectives included: a new
positioning of older women in society, a more balanced relationship between the sexes (as
opposed to the common subdivision of older people into "active" men and
"resigned" women), an intensification of the holistic approach in dealing with
physical and psychological changes in women in the menopause, and a more comprehensive
effective networking among the women experts. |
| Problems that the
initiative has been faced during its work: |
| Participation of the target
group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work: The concept for the seminar came from Mag. Königshofer, specialised in work
with older and old people since 1993. |
