Status of the initiative: The initiative is an initiative aimed at improving equal opportunities for older women through an organisation that pursues objectives which are independent of gender or age.

Content and framework conditions of the project work
The initiative was founded in: 1998
The initiative was founded because of the following reasons:

The general lack of advice and information about health matters specifically for older and old women.

The initiative was founded for a limited period of time:

In 1998/99 the theme "Older Women and Health" was a special focal point at the FFGZ. Later, this theme was integrated into the programme of the FFGZ, as specific funds for were limited.

Target group(s): Older and old women who are interested in coming to terms with health and old age.
Targets: - Information and advice for women;
- Promotion of a gender-specific view of ageing and the creation of public awareness; - Initiation and promotion of the debade on older women's health concerns.
Details of the work done by the initiative:

- Compilation of information folders for older women on the themes of mood changes, osteoporosis, diabetus mellitus type II and sleeplessness;
Information meetings on these themes, including a series of meetings at the FFGZ;
- PR work on women's health concerns (press discussions and mateial);
- Participation as speakers at seminars on the theme of "Health and Older Women and the Need for Gender-specific Health Care";
- Publications on "Health and Old Women", for example, in the women's health magazinie Clio, issue no. 45.

Success that the initiative has achieved:

There is a great demand and we cooperate with various institutions. We receive inquiries from women's repesentatives and other women with public functions.

Problems that the initiative has been faced during its work:

Funds for fees and materials were only available for a limited time period.
There is no awareness of the problem in the public domain.

Participation of the target group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work:

In the preliminary phase, discussions were held with organisations such as "Offensives Altern", "Graue Panther", self-help centes for senior citizens etc., and special committees for old people within charitable organisations were invited.

Co-operation:

Cooperation on specific points and issues with the above mentioned organisations.

Before inaugurating any such initiative, it is necessary to gather and study information material and stimulate an interest among the general public. As a rule, older people are regarded as "senior citizens", without any specification of gender.
