Content and framework conditions of the project work
The initiative was founded in: 1996
The initiative was founded because of the following reasons:

At a meeting in the Citizens' Advice Bureau, the idea of founding a coffee circle was born. At first it was suggested that the circle meet every six months, but those present thought that this was not often enough. Since then the coffee circle meets monthly.

Target group(s): Women 50 and older who are looking for social contacts
Targets: The aim of the coffee circle is to overcome the loneliness and isolation that threatens mostly older single women and to promote social contacts.
Details of the work done by the initiative:

The Coffee Circle consists of some 12 women who meet once or twice a month in a café in Friedrichshafen. All kinds of topics are discussed; the discussion is often lively and punctuated with laughter. A volunteer staff worker from the Citizens Advice Bureau attends the Coffee Circle. A social network has sprung up from the Coffee Circle, in which members telephone together, visit each other when ill, etc.

Areas of work of the initiative:
Leisure/sport
Social contacts
Success that the initiative has achieved:

The group's sense of community is growing, as is its spirit of mutual supportiveness. Some women have established contacts with other interest groups connected to the Citizens Advice Bureau. In addition, demand for these meetings is growing. Women from the surrounding communities come to Friedrichshafen to attend the coffee circle.

Problems that the initiative has been faced during its work:
Participation of the target group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work:

In general we welcome participation in planning and carrying out projects. The topics for discussion are suggested by the participants.

Co-operation:

The "Kontakt 3" Citizens Advice Bureau is a member of the Netzwerk bürgerschaftliches Engagement (Citizens Commitment Network) in Baden-Württemberg. We organise training sessions, work groups etc. together.
