| Content and framework conditions of the project work |
| The initiative was founded
in: 1998 |
| The initiative was founded
because of the following reasons: The
National Network of Older Women, a registered charity, was asked to give a presentation on
"The Emotional State of Older Women in East and West", in preparation for the
International Year of Senior Citizens. This request gave rise to the idea for the survey. |
| The initiative was founded
for a limited period of time: The survey was
carried out once. |
| Target group(s): |
The interviewees were women from east and west Germany
born between 1914 and 1944. |
| Targets: |
The goal of the survey was to present opinions
currently held by older women in east and west. |
| Details of the work done by
the initiative: Twenty-one women were asked
to answer in writing the following three questions:
1. Would you like to be 20 again?
2. If you were to return to this Earth a second time, what would you do differently?
3. What do you wish for the 3rd millennium?
In the presentation for which this survey was conducted, we were
able to communicate only a few of the answers to the audience. Thus all the answers were
later published at full length in a brochure.
Although the survey is not particularly scientific, it does throw an interesting light on
the emotional state of older women in eastern and western Germany. |
| Areas of work of the
initiative: |
 |
Publicity work on the emotional state of
older women |
|
| Success that the initiative
has achieved: Many of the women to whom we
wrote answered with unexpected alacrity. The letters that accompanied their answers
manifested a great readiness to answer the questions, as well as a sincere desire to talk
about the issues involved. The length of the answers also indicates the high degree of
emotional energy invested by the women in dealing with the questions. |
| Problems that the
initiative has been faced during its work: |
| Participation of the target
group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work: Total participation through the survey and word-for-word publication of their
answers. |
| Co-operation: |
| Information: We are available for people interested in receiving more information on our
