About the initiative
Status of the initiative:

The initiative is an initiative aimed at improving equal opportunities for older women through an organisation that pursues objectives which are independent of gender or age.

The initiative has the dicisive support of the following organisation:

Content and framework conditions of the project work
The initiative was founded in: 1995
The initiative was founded because of the following reasons:

The starting point for this initiative was the growing awareness in France concerning the mistreatment of older/old people. The initiative is an attempt to find solutions that will help those affected.

Target group(s): Isolated people living at home;
- residents of homes for the elderly;
- the mentally or physically challenged.
Targets: - To raise public consciousness with respect to the mistreatment of elderly people;
-To try to offer solutions.
Details of the work done by the initiative:

Telephone service:
- Listening to complaints about physical, emotional, and psychological mistreatment, financial neglect, mistreatment involving drugs or neglect, problems with the neighbours;
-Calls from old and very old people with family problems, or those seeking advice and information;
Calls from professional helpers and family members of the old/older people;

Training courses for professional welfare workers who look after the elderly.

Success that the initiative has achieved:

- People's consciousness of this problem in France is indeed increasing;
-Support by the press;
-Increased demand for information and advice from social workers concerned with old people's welfare.

Problems that the initiative has been faced during its work:

- The difficulty of taking action in certain situations in which it is impossible to intervene constructively;
- Occasionally the social services are nowhere in sight.

Participation of the target group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work:

By offering appropriate help, or providing advice when we take action, as well as by offering emotional support.

Co-operation:

A co-operation with the ALMA regional association has existed since 1995. We report to this association on our work (statistics, annual reports).

The total number of hours worked for the initiative is approx. 15 hours per week.
