| Content and framework conditions of the project work |
| The initiative was founded
in: 2000 |
| The initiative was founded
because of the following reasons: Originally,
older women were excluded from the Global March of Women: their problems were not taken
seriously, and only young women's concerns were reflected in the program. This state of
affairs reflected the general lack of interest among young women for older women's
problems. In order to include the latter in the program as well, I made sure that the Grey
Panthers were able to participate in the Global March. |
| The initiative was founded
for a limited period of time: The Global
March is limited to one year - 1999/2000 - and ends with a big get-together in Canada on
15 October 2000. |
| Target group(s): |
All women over 50 who feel affected by the problems of
aging. |
| Targets: |
To raise public awareness of the increase in the
percentage of old people in the population and of the problems faced by old women in
particular. To educate young women more about old age. |
| Details of the work done by
the initiative: - Contacts with the
co-ordinators of the Global March of Women;
- Participation in numerous co-ordination meetings;
-Presentations on problems specific to older women: health, living conditions in homes for
the elderly, domestic services, mistreatment of older/old women - an issue that has
hitherto scarcely been dealt with - provision for the care of older/old women. |

| Success that the initiative
has achieved: At the present stage (May 2000)
it is hard to measure our success. Nevertheless, the World March of Women is receiving a
very positive echo in the media, for instance on French TV. |
| Problems that the
initiative has been faced during its work: Few
difficulties; but participation requires a great deal of personal energy and intensive
personal militant commitment. |
| Participation of the target
group concerning the conception, planning and implementation of the initiative's work: The World March mobilised over 20,000 people. The Panthers drew a lot of
attention to themselves by dressing up as panthers. |
| Co-operation: Since 1998 with the co-ordination office of the World March of Women. |
| Information: We are available for people interested in receiving more information on our
initiative by phone, post or e-mail. |
