| Abstract: A very much larger than average number of women are affected by the problem
of the need for care in old age, be it as recipients and as providers of such care. Almost
half a million people in Austria in need of help and care are looked after mainly by
female relatives, who themselves are often over the age of 50; the work done by these
women is not paid for, nor are payments made to a social security scheme. In her
contribution, Holzmann deals with the situation of old women in Austria, with the care
provided for old people by family members, with new patterns in the system of care for the
aged, and with innovative organisational structures in the realm of care for the aged. |
