| Abstract: This essay contains the findings of a survey on how women use the public
thoroughfares as part of the public domain. It shows that older women in particular have
great disadvantages as regards mobility, in terms of the means of transport available to
them and their ownership of cars, but that they behave more cautiously on the roads, to
judge by the smaller number of accidents in which they are involved. On the basis of this,
the essay also makes reccommendations on the planning of urban transportation in the
broadest sense. Furthermore it deals with how sports venues might be designed to
facilitatet both sexes, and with a more emancipated image of sport. |
