| Abstract: This contribution examines the relationship between women's living and
working conditions and the specific problems confronted by women as they grow older. The
examination is based on an empirical study on the living situations of older and old women
in West Berlin. It is clear that a gender-specific ageing problem exists from both a
quantitative and a qualitative point of view, and that that this problem takes extremely
heterogeneous forms, depending on social group or class, family situation, and similar
socially differentiating characteristics. |
