Title of the event: Equal Opportunities for Older Women in Politics and Society

Kind of the event: European Conference

Brief outline of the contents and aims of the event:

The results of a survey on initiatives by and for older women at the level of political and association work in Germany, France, and Austria show that, having been ignored for a long time, an awareness of the special wants and needs of older women is growing. At the same time, in view of the entry into the so-called third age in life of a better qualified generation of women with more experience with political representation, it can be assumed that in future the political debate will be marked by a hitherto unknown self-awareness on the part of older women. If measures taken in the realms of politics and association work are not to be restricted just to reacting to socio-political developments but are to actively influence them, it is important to start a discourse between all the relevant actors as soon as possible.

The objective of the conference is to facilitate an exchange of views and initiate a discussion process between political decision-makers, representatives of associations, and scientists from the member states of the European Union, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein not only on national concepts, strategies, and proven practices in favour of older women, but on the respective difficulties and the future need for action.

Target group:

Political decision-makers, representatives of associations, and scientists from the member states of the European Union, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
